Rolling Hippos for Water

Water is essential, yet millions, especially in rural areas, lack access to clean water. Women and children often bear the burden of collecting it. Rotary International focuses on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) to improve access and ease this burden.
The Rotary Club of Gibsons and Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast are launching “Rolling Hippos for Water,” a virtual walk to raise awareness and funding for the hippo water roller, a tool that simplifies water transport.

Participants will symbolically cover 1,000 km, from Sechelt/Gibsons, BC to Calgary, to fund these rollers. The campaign starts on World Water Day, March 22nd, and ends at the Rotary International Convention in Calgary, June 21-25, 2025, highlighting water accessibility issues.

Rotary Clubs can join in by:

  • Participating in the virtual walk and fundraising for the 1,000 km journey. Each $100 donation covers one kilometer.
  • Hosting events to educate about global water challenges.
  • Engaging with the media to boost impact and participation.
  • Partnering with local businesses, schools, and organizations to expand reach.
This initiative raises awareness, supports Rotary’s mission, and contributes to global water access solutions.
